After graduating I’ve been surprisingly busy! I’ve worked on a play, a fundraiser and finished my first short film. I also just got my work visa, which is exciting. I’ll start submitting myself on actors access etc. and live the actor’s life of balancing auditions and a day job. I don’t know what I want to do yet, I still have some time to figure it out. It has to be close to my field of study for my OPT, which luckily is (surprise, surprise) my passion…
The play
The play I’m in is for LA fringe and is called “In Her Head”. It’s about a girl struggling with mental illness in the style of “Inside Out”. I play Anxiety and a character in the exterior world who just wants to have a nice poetry club. The process so far has been really interesting because we started rehearsing only two and a half weeks ago and only a handful of times total. We just had our preview which was really fun and we have a couple more shows to go in June! If you have time please come! 🙂
The fundraiser
I was also in a fundraiser for the Eaton fire produced by Dig Deep Theater spearheaded by a good friend of mine. Everybody was brilliant and we raised 1400$. I did a sonnet from “Sonnets for an old century” and we sang Pink Pony Club to close it out. The singing was sooo fun! I’m really proud of what we did, although I didn’t get great photos compared to the others. Joking aside it feels great to take the community we’ve built at CalArts and to put our work into the real world.
The short film
I also finished my first short film! We shot it a while ago but editing the sound took Yoshiya a while because he was incredibly overworked. I learned so much making it and had a ridiculous amount of fun. Our DP Drew is an experimental filmmaker, this was his narrative debut. I’m really proud and motivated to make more stuff in the future 🙂
